Amid new US tariff plan, Centre bars import of goods using forced labour
The Government of India prohibited the import of goods produced using forced labour, following a proposal by the United States Trade Representative for a 12.5% tariff on India over this issue. This decision aligns with existing regulations aimed at addressing forced labour concerns, which the USTR found India was not effectively enforcing. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade issued an order on July 13, formally prohibiting such imports as part of the Foreign Trade Policy.
