Bangladesh President Shahabuddin resigns
Bangladesh President Mohammed Shahabuddin resigned on Friday, citing health complications as the reason for his departure two years before the end of his term. The 76-year-old leader, a veteran of the 1971 Liberation War, had assumed office in April 2023 and was the last constitutional figure remaining after the ousting of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in 2024. Following his resignation, parliamentary Speaker Hafizuddin Ahmed will serve as Acting President until a new election is held.
