Centre launches 'Seafarer-First' response amid Hormuz attacks; orders real-time tracking of Indian crew
The Indian government launched a 'Seafarer-First' response following attacks on two merchant vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, resulting in one Indian seafarer's death. Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal directed the establishment of a vessel-by-vessel dashboard to monitor the location and welfare of Indian seafarers in the region. This initiative includes real-time tracking, 24/7 coordination among ministries, and dedicated liaison officers for affected seafarers.
