Centre may revive NaBFID-IIFCL merger plan after REC-PFC move to build infra financing giant
The Indian government is considering reviving a merger plan between the National Bank for Financing Infrastructure and Development (NaBFID) and the India Infrastructure Finance Co. Ltd. (IIFCL), aiming to create a major infrastructure lender with a loan book of nearly ₹1.85 trillion. This renewed interest follows the ongoing merger of REC Ltd and Power Finance Corp. (PFC), which has reignited discussions about enhancing India's infrastructure financing capabilities. If successful, the merger would strengthen the development finance institution's ability to support the country's growing infrastructure needs.
