Centre plans daily tracking to see if merchants charge consumers for UPI fee
The Centre will monitor daily whether merchants charge consumers a new Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) on UPI transactions over ₹2,000, effective October 15. Officials dismissed allegations of US pressure for the fee, asserting that subsidizing UPI does not foster innovation. The current subsidy for transactions below ₹2,000 will end after this date.
