Chandigarh, Dadra & Nagar Haveli to launch CBDC food subsidy transfers
The Centre will launch a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC)-based Direct Benefit Transfer system for food subsidies in Chandigarh and Dadra & Nagar Haveli on August 14, 2026, making them the first Union Territories to digitize food subsidy delivery. Eligible beneficiaries will receive subsidies directly into CBDC wallets, allowing real-time purchases from fair price shops, which aims to enhance security and efficiency in benefit transfers. This initiative serves as a pilot for broader implementation across India, aligning with the government's push for Digital Public Infrastructure.
