Export surge, lower gold imports narrow August trade deficit
India's merchandise exports surged 26.12% year-on-year to $43.81 billion in August, the highest for the month in a decade. Imports rose 14.1% to $70.67 billion, while gold imports fell to $2.3 billion, aiding in narrowing the trade deficit to $9.41 billion. The trend is expected to continue as the government urges restraint in gold purchases.
