Farmers, water bodies: Why has CM Vijay dropped 2nd Chennai airport plan, for now
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay announced the suspension of the second Chennai airport plan due to environmental concerns and protests from farmers. The proposed site in Parandur was deemed unsuitable because of water bodies and agricultural land. Vijay promised alternative sites and plans to expand the existing Meenambakkam airport to accommodate 55 million passengers annually by 2028.
