‘Fear of shift to cash due to merchant fee on UPI 100% misplaced’: Government sources
Government sources stated fears of a cash shift due to a proposed merchant fee on UPI transactions over ₹2,000 are unfounded. They noted that only 4% of such transactions would incur this fee, and merchants already absorb higher fees on credit cards. The GST Council will discuss this issue on October 7.
