GLP-1 diabetes drugs linked to increased risk of hair loss: Study
A study published in the British Medical Journal found that glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists, commonly used for type 2 diabetes and obesity, are linked to an increased risk of hair loss. While the absolute risk remains low, researchers emphasized the importance of this finding for informed treatment decisions, especially as these drugs gain popularity among younger, non-diabetic populations. The study analyzed data from over 39,000 patients to compare alopecia rates among users of GLP-1 receptor agonists and other diabetes medications.
