Government has no data on India's E20-compatible vehicles

The central government has admitted it lacks data on the number of vehicles in India compatible with E20 petrol, despite mandating its nationwide rollout. Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Suresh Gopi stated that the Ministry of Heavy Industries has not assessed vehicle compatibility, raising concerns about the rollout timeline as E20 petrol is set to be available by mid-2025. The government claims that while E10-calibrated vehicles may experience a 3-5 percent reduction in mileage with E20, there is no verified evidence of widespread engine failures linked to ethanol blending.
