Govt infra spending rises fivefold since 2014, touches nearly ₹91 trillion
The Centre's effective capital expenditure surged to ₹90.87 trillion from 2014 to 2026, a fivefold increase from ₹17.04 trillion in the previous decade, according to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. This rise underscores the government's strategy to drive economic growth through public investment in infrastructure, with direct capital expenditure reaching ₹64.70 trillion and grants for capital assets totaling ₹26.17 trillion. Experts believe this investment will enhance productivity and employment, although execution remains crucial.
