India loosens raw sugar rules as prices soar
The Indian government revised duty-free raw sugar import rules, allowing importers two months to process and sell refined sugar. This change responds to rising domestic sugar prices, which increased from ₹48.18 per kg in July to ₹63.05 in August, attributed to lower production and hoarding. The new rules aim to enhance sugar availability ahead of the festive season.
