Inside Kolkata delimitation: Why Adhikari government moves to redraw wards before civic polls
The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) plans to increase its wards from 144 to 200 ahead of the December civic polls, following orders issued by the Suvendu Adhikari-led BJP government. This delimitation exercise aims to address demographic imbalances, according to the BJP, while opposition parties argue it is a strategic move to gain control of the KMC from the Trinamool Congress (TMC). The Central Delimitation Committee must submit its recommendations by July 27 for finalization.
