Kolkata stampede: Death in the time of Durga Puja
On October 17, a stampede at a Durga Puja pandal in north Kolkata resulted in 19 fatalities. The pandal's narrow space and poor lighting contributed to the chaos as crowds surged following rain. This tragedy has sparked discussions about accountability in West Bengal, overshadowing the new government's inaugural Durga Puja celebrations.
