Madras High Court cancels govt jobs for Karur stampede victims' families
The Madras High Court annulled the Tamil Nadu government's decision to grant compassionate jobs to families of victims from the Karur stampede, which killed 41 people in September 2025. The court ruled that such appointments violated Articles 14 and 16 of the Constitution, emphasizing that allowing them would lead to an influx of similar claims. Advocate Mohammed Rashid argued that the victims' families did not meet the Supreme Court's established eligibility criteria for compassionate appointments.
