MDR on UPI transactions over Rs 2,000 deferred; to come into effect post Diwali
The government deferred the implementation of the Merchant Discount Rate for Unified Payments Interface transactions over ₹2,000, originally set for October 15. This delay, aimed at preventing payment disruptions during the festive season, allows payment companies more time to prepare. The new fee structure is now expected to take effect after Diwali, impacting revenue streams for these firms.
