Microsoft agreed not to train AI on US student data. India has no such legal bar until May 2027
Microsoft agreed with the American Federation of Teachers not to use student data for AI training, except for safety purposes. This legally binding agreement includes third-party audits and prohibits data sale or advertising use. In India, similar protections under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, will not take effect until May 2027, leaving data use dependent on vendor contracts.
