More headache for int'l students: US to roll out fixed-period F-1 visa from Sept
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security will implement a new fixed-period F-1 visa system starting September 15, replacing the existing 'duration of status' regime. Under the new rule, international students can stay for a maximum of four years, after which they must apply for visa extensions. Students currently outside the U.S. must return before the cutoff to benefit from transition provisions, according to immigration attorneys.
