More tariffs on the table, less panic in US?
U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer stated that President Donald Trump's new tariffs on 60 trading partners for alleged forced labor violations will likely not impact the economy, as the rates are similar to previous global tariffs. Greer noted that these duties apply to a smaller group of countries compared to a now-expired universal tariff, covering 99.4% of U.S. imports. He also mentioned ongoing investigations that could lead to additional tariffs on key trading partners, including China and the European Union.
