New RBI rules may end loan spread tinkering
The Reserve Bank of India proposed new rules that may prevent lenders from adjusting loan spreads to favor new borrowers over existing ones. The draft regulations require banks and non-banking financial companies to maintain the loan spread over the benchmark rate for a minimum of three years. The rules aim to standardize interest-rate calculations across financial institutions starting in 2026.
