'No credible basis': GTRI slams US 301 tariff rationale
The Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI) criticized the U.S. decision to impose a 10% Section 301 tariff on Indian exports, stating it lacks credible evidence and seems aimed at maintaining trade barriers. GTRI highlighted that the U.S. has not demonstrated that India imports goods made with forced labor, and noted India's recent amendment to its Foreign Trade Policy to prohibit such imports. The new tariff affects approximately 70% of India's exports to the U.S., which will now incur both the normal Most Favoured Nation tariff and the additional Section 301 duty.
