No ICMR study to assess addiction-like traits of ultra-processed foods: Govt

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has not conducted any study on the addiction-like traits of ultra-processed foods, as stated by Minister of State for Health Prataprao Jadhav in the Lok Sabha. He noted that while higher consumption of these foods is linked to various health risks, including obesity and diabetes, the evidence is observational and does not establish direct causality. ICMR continues to promote awareness about these risks through initiatives like the 'Let's Fix Our Food' campaign and updated Dietary Guidelines for Indians, 2024.
