OpenAI's first hardware device will be a speaker
OpenAI will launch a portable, screen-free smart speaker as its first consumer hardware product, following a lawsuit from Apple accusing the AI startup of trade-secret theft. The device, designed to act as a humanlike AI companion, will control smart home appliances and utilize advanced AI capabilities, potentially generating new revenue for OpenAI as it prepares for an IPO. Developed in collaboration with former Apple designers, the speaker is still in development and aims to leverage OpenAI's ChatGPT technology.
