Over-leveraged borrowers jump 3-fold, credit expansion loses pace: Cibil
A TransUnion CIBIL study revealed that the share of over-leveraged borrowers in India surged from 5% in FY17 to 18% in FY24, before slightly decreasing to 15% in FY26. This trend highlights rising consumer debt, particularly among younger borrowers, and a slowdown in the growth of first-time borrowers, posing challenges for the retail credit sector.
