The Income Tax Department collected over ₹9,493 crore in additional tax from 1.25 crore updated income tax returns filed in the last two years. This increase followed the Central Board of Direct Taxes' NUDGE campaign, which encouraged taxpayers to file updated returns. The department continues to identify wrongful tax relief claims through data analytics and verification processes.
