Panel recommends annual screening, additional test for chronic kidney disease
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health and Family Welfare recommended that all serum creatinine tests in India include an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) report to enhance early detection of chronic kidney disease (CKD). The committee's 177th report highlighted a CKD prevalence of approximately 13.24% in India, emphasizing the need for annual screenings for high-risk individuals and a standardized national protocol. These measures aim to reduce late diagnoses and reliance on dialysis and transplantation, addressing significant regional disparities in CKD awareness and management.
