Rajya Sabha passes judges Bill; Opposition raises ordinance route, diversity deficit
The Rajya Sabha approved the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill, 2026, on Wednesday, increasing the number of judges from 34 to 38. This Bill replaces an ordinance issued in May and was passed after a nearly two-hour discussion. The Opposition raised concerns about the government's use of the ordinance route just before the Supreme Court's summer vacation.
