RBI has proactively helped UCBs; cooperatives should look at regulator differently: Shah
Union Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah urged urban cooperative banks (UCBs) to reassess their perception of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), stating that the central bank has actively supported the sector. Shah highlighted recent RBI relaxations, including liberalized branch opening and doorstep banking, which have benefited UCBs managing over ₹6 lakh crore in deposits. He emphasized the safety of small borrowers for lenders and welcomed the RBI's move to resume 'on-tap' licensing for UCBs after two decades.
