Rishikesh–Karnaprayag rail line to have 16 tunnels: How India’s homegrown technology is advancing Himalayan connectivity
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the Rishikesh-Karnaprayag rail line will feature 16 tunnels and 19 bridges, with 83% of its 125 km alignment underground. India is advancing its domestic manufacturing of Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) amid Chinese export restrictions. This project aims to enhance infrastructure in Uttarakhand and reduce reliance on imports.
