Rs 53,428 cr social assistance scheme gets govt nod
The Union Cabinet approved ₹53,428 crore for the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) to run from 2026-27 to 2030-31. The scheme, renamed 'Pradhan Mantri Samajik Sahayata Yojana', revises disability pension norms, lowering the disability benchmark from 80% to 40% and eliminating the minimum age requirement. Implementation of the new criteria is expected within three months.
