Samsung, SK Hynix advance new memory layer to tackle AI scaling limits
Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are advancing a new memory layer to support artificial intelligence (AI) applications, moving beyond traditional high-bandwidth memory. This new technology, based on Compute Express Link (CXL), allows for greater memory capacity and flexibility, decoupling memory expansion from processor upgrades. Samsung aims to begin production of its next-generation memory module by year-end, while SK Hynix showcased a 256-gigabyte sample but has not set a production timeline.
