Schizophrenia’s lost brain connections follow a surprising pattern
Researchers, including a Rutgers professor, identified significant synaptic loss in the brains of 29 schizophrenia patients using PET imaging. The study revealed pronounced reductions in synaptic connections across frontal and temporal regions, particularly on the left side, differing from typical brain volume changes seen in MRI scans. This research may enhance understanding of schizophrenia's cognitive and emotional symptoms.
