Supreme Court proposes no fuel for uninsured vehicles, seeks Centre's plan
The Supreme Court of India proposed linking fuel supply to the insurance status of vehicles to combat the high rate of uninsured vehicles, which currently stands at 56%. The court directed the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India to explore a pilot project that would deny fuel to uninsured vehicles, a move supported by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. This initiative aims to expedite compensation for road accident victims and reduce litigation delays.
