Too much RNA can starve cells of energy, scientists discover
Scientists discovered that excess RNA in cells can damage mitochondria, impairing energy production. A study from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine revealed that during poxvirus infections, RNA buildup affects cellular function. These findings, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, could enhance understanding of aging-related diseases and improve RNA-based treatments, including mRNA vaccines.
