Trump gives India exporters reason to breathe easier
The Donald Trump administration reduced tariffs on most Indian exports to 10% from 12.5%, providing India a trade advantage over competing manufacturing economies. This change, effective immediately after the expiry of temporary duties on July 24, affects approximately 70% of India's exports to the US. Indian officials attributed the lower rate to constructive engagement with the US regarding labour practices and India's commitment to prohibiting imports linked to forced labour.
