UK to switch on default midnight social media curfews for 16 and 17-year-olds
The UK government will implement default overnight social media curfews from midnight to 6am for 16 and 17-year-olds, alongside disabling autoplay and infinite scroll features. This decision follows a pilot study involving over 300 families, which indicated that curfews improved sleep and concentration among teenagers. While families reported benefits, the pilot also revealed that usage patterns shifted rather than decreased, with participants often using social media more before and after the curfew.
