UPI MDR rollout deferred until after Diwali
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) deferred the rollout of the merchant discount rate (MDR) on UPI transactions until after Diwali, amid concerns from trade bodies about potential impacts on festive spending. The final implementation date will be announced soon, but the proposed MDR charges remain unchanged, with a standard rate of 0.4% for transactions above ₹2,000.
