UPI stays free for users, vast majority of transactions to remain free for merchants as well, says government
The Indian government confirmed that UPI transactions will remain free for users, with most merchant transactions also staying free. Any future merchant discount rate (MDR) would only apply to a limited number of transactions above a certain threshold and at a lower rate than typical debit and credit card MDRs. This decision supports small traders and street vendors using UPI payments.
