US on alert after China's 'dual-use' research vessels spotted near Alaska
The US is monitoring increased activity of Chinese research vessels near Alaska, raising mineral and security concerns. Four vessels have been spotted in the Arctic since January 2026, compared to five last year, according to Rear Admiral Bob Little of the US Coast Guard. The lack of advance notification from these vessels is causing heightened vigilance among US authorities.
