WhatsApp tests age declaration: What the DPDP Act requires next
WhatsApp has begun prompting select users in India to declare their date of birth as part of a test to comply with the upcoming Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDP). The DPDP Act, which defines a child as anyone under 18, will impose new obligations on platforms regarding children's data starting May 13, 2027. This proactive measure by WhatsApp aims to align with these future regulations, although the app confirmed that user experience and privacy will remain unchanged during this testing phase.
