Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman confirmed that the government has approved the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) proposal to introduce ₹10 and ₹20 plastic banknotes. The RBI is currently conducting a pilot to assess the performance of polymer notes in Indian conditions, with a potential rollout expected at the beginning of the next fiscal year, pending successful trials. However, Sitharaman did not provide a specific launch date, citing that the procurement process is still in its early stages.
