Why Punjab is turning to methadone to supplement its fight against drug addiction
Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Balbir Singh inaugurated six dedicated Methadone Maintenance Therapy (MMT) clinics on June 26, aimed at combating the state's opioid addiction crisis. With over 300,000 individuals registered for treatment at government centres, these clinics will enhance existing de-addiction efforts by providing medically supervised opioid treatment. The introduction of MMT represents a significant step in addressing the high levels of drug addiction in Punjab.
