17-year-old Texas teen uses AI to map air pollution and train young climate leaders
- Nathan Tan developed an AI model to estimate neighbourhood air quality where official pollution monitors were unavailable.
- His project now reaches about 1,000 Texans through a live online air-quality map showing local pollution levels.
- Tan’s initiative reached more than 60 low-income schools, distributing bilingual pollution guides and training 300 youth ambassadors.
- The team also distributed homemade air filters and 10,000 KN95 masks while raising pollution concerns locally.
