A first edition of 'The Hobbit' sat in an ordinary bookcase for decades
- A first edition of 'The Hobbit' was found in an ordinary bookcase during a Bristol house clearance in 2025.
- • It sold for £43,000, about Rs 48 lakh, more than four times the auction house’s lower estimate.
- Only 1,500 first editions were printed in 1937, and a few hundred are thought to survive.
- It had no dust jacket, and still set a record for a first edition sold without one.
