ABVP demands NLSIU cancel screening on jailed activist Umar Khalid in Bengaluru

India

  • ABVP Bengaluru has asked NLSIU to cancel a planned screening of a documentary on activist Umar Khalid.
  • The documentary, ‘Prisoner No. 626710 is Present’, is scheduled to be screened on September 14 by NLSIU’s Law & Society Committee.
  • The screening is being organised in solidarity with Khalid, who has been in custody since his arrest in September 2020 under the UAPA in connection with the 2020 Delhi riots case.
  • ABVP called the screening political propaganda and said it had emailed a complaint to the NLSIU administration seeking cancellation; an advocate also urged the university’s Vice-Chancellor to stop it.
