Can ₹8,452 crore lying in PM CARES be used to build schools?
- The total money in the PM CARES fund grew to ₹8,452 crore by March 2025. Only ₹87.85 lakh was spent that year, less than one percent.
- CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke said this money could build over 1,000 model schools, at about ₹8 crore each.
- The rules limit it. PM CARES is a charitable trust meant for emergencies, relief and healthcare.
- The Supreme Court ruled in 2020 that the fund cannot be ordered to transfer money elsewhere. The BJP has criticised Dipke's remarks.
