Centre warns against misuse of NSAIDs and antibiotics without medical supervision
- The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation CDSCO issued an advisory on 21 September against nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug NSAID misuse.
- The circular said NSAIDs and antibiotics should only be used under a Registered Medical Practitioner's supervision.
- Most NSAIDs and antibiotics fall under Schedule H and H1, restricting retail sale without a valid prescription.
- The advisory urged doctors to prescribe the lowest effective NSAID dose, especially for patients with renal risk.
