FSSAI proposes ban on using 'paneer' name for non-milk products
- FSSAI has proposed restricting the use of the word “paneer” for non-dairy analogue products sold as substitutes.
- Products made with paneer or cheese analogues would have to be clearly identified to consumers under the proposal.
- Hotels, restaurants and caterers using such substitutes would need to disclose this clearly on menus and packaging.
- Products already registered as “Analogue in Dairy Context” would have to drop “paneer” from their names, labels and marketing.
