Mumbai’s iconic Gaiety-Galaxy cinema is shut after a ruckus over its decision not to screen Hanuman Ansh.
Mumbai Police say the theatre’s operating licence had not been renewed since 2021 and issued a closure notice.
The police action follows protests by workers from political organisations over the removal of Hanuman Ansh from the cinema’s schedule.
The theatre management disputes the licence-related reason, saying a technical issue involving burnt electrical cables caused the temporary shutdown.
